American Road Show, Share America and Ted Talks, May 25-27

Next week we are examining information about the digital divide in America, which, during COVID-19, has become an issue of justice, equality and access to the basics.

Tuesday, May 25 at 6pm Ted Talks (and so do you!) SIGN UP
Prepare for the program by watching #Disconnected: COVID-19 and the Digital Divide.
The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the widening digital divide, and we’ve clearly seen how many Americans couldn’t respond to the vast amounts of information available on the health crisis. Roughly one-in-five American adults are “smartphone-only” internet users with no access to home broadband service or laptops. Low-income Americans and communities of color are particularly disadvantaged.

Wednesday, May 26 at 6pm Share America SIGN UP
Prepare for the conversation by reading How remote learning is making educational inequities worse.
It offers a piece of research on families in Los Angeles, and demonstrates the impact of technology, and poverty, on the ability of their children to access their lessons.

Thursday, May 27 at 6pm American Road Show SIGN UP
Prepare for the program by watching part 2 of The Facebook Dilemma.
Part 2 explores Facebook and the growing alarm over its use by criminals and non-criminals to manipulate public opinion on a range of issues. Last week, we looked at Part 1 which explores the role of Facebook (new media) in public discourse about freedom of expression and media freedom.
