Improving Students' Reading and Critical Thinking in English

American Corner Novi Sad is inviting students and teachers of the English language, as well as anybody else who may be interested, to a workshop titled "Improving Students' Reading and Critical Thinking in English" which will be moderated by prof. Beverly Chin from the University of Montana at Tuesday, May 14 at 6 pm.

Modern age imposes a lot of new competences; therefore, surviving in today’s world is challenging and requires multiple skills and higher thinking competence. Critical thinking is the art of analyzing and evaluating thinking by constantly trying to improve it. A critical thinker raises vital questions, formulates them correctly, gathers and assesses relevant information, comes to reasonable conclusions, thinks open-mindedly and is capable of solving complex problems. Prof. Chin will talk about how to help students improve these competences.

In 1995-1996,Dr. Chin served as President of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), a professional association of literacy educators, kindergarten through graduate school.
Formerly a high school English and adult education teacher, Dr. Chin has taught at several universities, including University of New Orleans, Arizona State University, and University of Central Florida.
