Literature and Humor in “South Park”

Is there literature in “South Park” and is this popular animated American sitcom literature in its own right? Stefan Pajović will try to solve these complex issues using examples of literary works mentioned in the show, such as Charles Dickens’ novel, The Diary of Anne Frank, and Harry Potter. By referring to countless works of literature, the creators of “South Park” confirm that their vein of humor is not primitive, but rather is a continuation of a tradition of satire that stems from Ancient Greece. Numerous examples of irony and parody which Stan, Kyle, Eric and Kenny are exposed to present a splendid invitation to a lecture that will help you understand the inner workings of “South Park’s” humor and make you laugh at the same time.

The lecture will take place on June 15th at 17.30h in American Corner in Kragujevac. The lecturer holds a Ph.D. in Philology and his research areas of interest are American and Irish Studies.
