FROM PHYSICS TO MUSIC: ABSTRACT WRITING WORKSHOP FOR NON-NATIVE SPEAKERS OF ENGLISH

Thursday, June 8th, 2017 / 6PM - 8PM

This two-hour English as a foreign language (EFL) workshop is designed to help non-native speakers of English improve their abstract writing skills. Abstracts in the research world have become an increasingly important part of a research article, conference paper/presentation, doctoral dissertation, and master’s thesis. The quality of an abstract may determine whether or not the reader chooses to read the paper further.  In this workshop, we will discuss some fundamental moves necessary for drafting a good quality abstract. We will also address EFL grammar issues, such as tense choice. Finally, we will practice how to create an effective title for a research paper.

Participants are welcome to bring rough drafts for the project they are currently working on, so at the workshop they will be able to practice writing abstracts.

Graduate students and other researchers from all disciplines are welcome.
